PHILIP RENNER MINISTRY – POWER OF WORSHIP

The Power of Worship

I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High. When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence.

— Psalm 9:1-3
Nothing upsets the devil more than when you praise God in a bad situation. It seems like everything is hopeless — but instead of giving up, you thank God for giving you the victory. That takes faith! renner-9-22

I remember I was
about to lead praise and worship when I got the call from my wife Ella:“Our daughter is dying.” It was about 30 seconds before I got on stage. I felt like there was no reason to worship. I wanted to drop everything and run to the hospital. Ella told m
e, “Philip, you will not make it! It’s too far;
there is too much traffic. All you can do is pray.

Those words encouraged me. I got on stage, and the first two songs I was speaking to myself.“Give the Lord a shout of praise!” I was jumping and shouting — and I looked like a nut because no one else in the hall was jumping and shouting with me! It was very dead in that roo

m — but I didn’t care. I was going to praise the Lord, regardless of who was praising with me! As I was praising, I heard a voice in my head say, You are acting. You’re wearing a mask now! You are a hypocrite and a fake. But I just ignored the voice!

When you put a smile on your face and praise God in tough situations, that’s not hypocrisy —that’s faith. Praising God even when you don’t feel like it is true worship. Praising God only when you feel like it — only when things are looking good — is hypocrisy. It is actually a clear sign that you don’t really trust that what God says is true, regardless of what circumstances looks like.

After about 20 minutes of deliberate, intense praise, I forgot about my daughter. You might say, “That is selfish!” I believe that was actually the opposite of selfish, because I was tapping into God’s way of deliverance for my daughter. The only way out of the situation was for me to look to Jesus and ignore the situation.

I finished leading worship, and I remembered about Mia and Ella. I called them, knowing a miracle had taken place. The doctors were shocked when they saw Mia. They expected a little girl who was near death to come in, but as I’d been worshiping, God did a miracle! Mia started jumping, laughing, and playing, right there in the hospital! It was nothing short of a miracle. That is the power of worship in a horrible situation!

King Jehoshaphat also understood this principle. When five kings were up against him, first he and the whole nation fasted. Then Jehoshaphat thanked God for the victory. And finally, he went out to fight by sending out the praise and worship leaders to the front line of the battlefield. Sounds like a crazy idea — but it worked!

And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the Lord, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth for ever.

—  2 Chronicles 20:21

As a result, instead of having to fight the enemy, God caused the enemy forces to get in strife with each other until they killed each other off! Not a single person remained. Later God rewarded King Jehoshaphat for trusting him in an impossible situation.

And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.

— 2 Chronicles 20:17-25

Maybe you are in a situamaxresdefaulttion similar to Jehoshaphat. You may feel like your whole world is crumbling down around you. That means it is time to turn on prais
e and worship music, dance before the Lord, and thank Him for the victory! God is the same yesterday, today and forever. If He did it for King Jehoshaphat and if He did it for me, then He will do it for you!

One of my favorite hymns is “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus.” The words are so powerful. “Turn your eyes upon Jesus; look full in His wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.”

That is so true! When you are in a bad situation, it doesn’t do you any good to concentrate and worry about the problem. Turn your eyes on Jesus. When you realize what an amazing God we serve, you will realize that He is absolutely able to take care of any difficulty you are facing right now. So start praising God for the answer, knowing that He inhabits the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3). He will intervene in your situation! He will show you His salvation.
